TurnItGreenToday.com evolved out of a real sense of responsibility. In our attempts to reserve resources, we began to question our various actions throughout our daily lives. We began to notice how many times we left a room with the light still on, how many lights were on in the house, what and how much food and materials were being thrown away, how many trips were made into town and all sorts of common actions preformed in a days time. We began to listen more to the news reports of landfills, of global warming, of greenhouse gases, etc. We began to realize that it had to start with me and with you. There was no other way to make it change without taking some personal responsibilities.
Rick began to study up on water conservation. We had a particularly good rainfall that season and he just couldn’t seem to capture enough of that natural resource in plastic jugs. So he found an old cow tank, set it out in the middle of the backyard and before he knew it, he had all the water he needed to keep his garden growing.
The garden gave another reason to recycle. He wanted his garden to be organic and so began saving scraps that would degrade back into the soil.
From there, it has just evolved and is still evolving. I knew there were many people who were jumping in on the ‘green movement’ meaning lots of ideas were being born. The best way I know to find information in this day and age is the internet. There is so much out there! I found myself needing to organize all I was reading and one thing led to another and here we are with the makings of another green website.
Do we need another green website with much of the same information? Well, yes, as long as we continue to waste instead of recycle, reserve and reuse. What makes us different? I don’t know except that our intent is that we learn it together. And that is what TurnItGreenToday.com is all about. Finding the information, teaching and sharing it, implementing it, encouraging each other and challenging each other to make each day count more than the day before. Even if you don’t really go for the global warming march, you have got to realize that we are a very wasteful society and at some point, something has to give.
You really have to want to make a difference because it does take effort to reuse rather than throw out. It takes creativity, which can be a fun thing. So hey, lets get passionate about it and lets get creative and then together, we can keep this awesome world of ours looking beautiful!
I’ll be scouring the internet for resources and info and bringing it all here to one place. I’ll share with you all the places I find and all the good things others are doing and what you can do. Then maybe, this green site will become one you would like to become a part of and visit often.
Oh, 2 more things…First, let’s not get political here. There are many sites out there for that very purpose. This is not one of them. Let’s just keep it simple.
And second, I hope to hop on board this rather ridiculous bandwagon of abbreviating. That means ‘tigt’, (pronounced tijit) stands for TurnItGreenToday. Let’s get tigtized!
